IDB/BCC Conduct Citywide Survey

Latin America and the Caribbean is the second-most urbanized region in the world with eight out of ten people living in cities.  During the last sixty-four years, the region has urbanized significantly to eighty percent since 1950.  That being said, the Inter-American Development Bank, in partnership with the Belize City Council, is conducting a citywide survey on a range of social and economic factors affecting residents.  The poll is being conducted by the Ready Call Center and employees are already canvassing the Old Capital, as well as surrounding communities, including Ladyville, to complete the questionnaire.  The objective, according to the lead surveyor is to garner feedback from residents these socioeconomic issues.

“Currently Idiom and Ready Call Center have been conducting a survey on behalf of the Emerging and Sustainable Cities Initiative of the IDB, the Inter-American Development Bank and the City Council.  It’s basically to capture the public opinion on various socioeconomic and environmental topics among residents in Belize and its environs.  Currently we have, Belize was divided into four sections: the north center, the south center and the south expansion and the north expansion and the environ which would be Ladyville.  Each section will have three surveyors doing the interviews to residents in that area.  Our current goal is to have at least one thousand, two hundred surveys done by the end of this week.  So that’s the reason why we are requesting the assistance of the general public in answering the surveys since it was launched last week.  We have been doing some, we have been meeting our goals, you know, so we just wanted the public to know.  It’s really an important survey and it touches on a lot of main topics when it comes to the economy, education level, it has different topics under that survey so we request all residents of Belize to take part in this and be part of this survey since it’s a good initiative for the Belizean society.”

The Emerging and Sustainable Cities Initiative is the IDB’s non-reimbursable technical assistance program which provides direct support to national and sub national governments in the development and execution of city action plans.
