Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.

Friday night’s ticket of BDBA Firms basketball play surely was something to see as Atlantic Bank currently in second place took a surging BWS looking to move on. The bank gets off fast as Ervin Orosco strikes the pose for a triple, would tally 22 points and would lead his team with 4 assists to earn the highest efficiency rating with 19. At mid court Ashley Hemsley comes up with this loose ball and deals to Lawrence Young who smoothly reverses for 2 of his team high 15 points. But at the end of the 1st the bank commands a 4-point lead. In the 2nd Marshall Nunez enters the land of the giants and comes up with magic for 2 of his 8 game points. Atlantic Bank pushes the lead to 24 when Herman Ramos attacks the rim for 2 of his game high 25 points helping his tally by going 7 of 8 from the free throw line and also pulled down 6 rebounds.

BWS pushes back – James Enriquez mesmerizes the bank’s defence with this dance through the defence for 2 of his 11 game points.  Luis Barcelona then beats Cassian Flowers to the rim for 2 of his game 13. Akeem Trapp also contributes to the BWS momentum with this drive for 2 of his 7 points and he record the game high of 9 assist. When Lawrence Young hits this baseline jumper BWS ends the quarter only down by 1 point – Young would lead BWS in scoring with 15 points. Down by 9in the 3rd Young brings BWS to within 6 with this 3-point offering. Folks meet the chairman of the boards – Cassian the Russian Flowers who would pull a double digit 11 rebounds to go along with his 6 points. Lawrence Young gives BWS its only lead in the 2nd half with this triple. Folks Ervin Orosco was simply brilliant in the 3rd quarter as he shoots for 2 more Atlantic Bank points. It’s a 53 to 47 lead for the Bank at the end of 3.

In the 4th Orosco teams up with top scorer Herman Ramos to extend the lead. Atlantic Bank goes on to post the 70 – 62 big W and remain 2nd place in the standings. Meanwhile we also got a glimpse of Friday night opener between Mayan Man Warriors and BTL. We pick up the action in the 4th quarter with BTL up by 2. Matthew Young ties the score for Warriors with this tip in off the missed shot and we’re tied at 74 apiece. Mark Swift look for his 16th point with this attempt at the triple – it falls short Jason Vasquez sweeps in and goes glass for 2 of his team high 19 points. At the other end Winston Pratt finds Sheldon Williams in the paint and he banks the hook shot to give Warriors a 3-point lead. Here come the dagger folks, BTL’s Jason Vasquez misses the 3-point attempt, Winston Pratt who would record the game high 23 points pulls his game high 7 rebounds and deals to Sheldon Williams who delivers. Down by 3 Dave Apolonio looks for his 15th game point – he misses badly. Mayan Man Warriors stays atop the league with an 82 to 78 big W over BTL.

In football news, the Smart Mundialito reached money time yesterday inside the MCC Grounds and we go in the 3rd place match-up between Ladyville Rising Stars and Hattieville Riverside Boys. In the main event City Boys and Brown Bombers took to the field for the Championship battle. We’re in the late 1st half action when this advance by Ken Galvez forces Edward Humes out of his goal; the broken play reaches Zamar Alvarez who aims at an open goal only to be denied by the tough defender Michael Bradley.

In the 2nd half Keyden Bowen fires at goal but the ball veers wide as City Boys continue to hunt. Folks this all out press for the goal by City Boy creates a serious opportunity to score but Edward Humes handles his position. In extra time Darnel Gonzalez tries to secu7re the W for City Boys with this left foot shot that inly screams past the target. City Boys keep the pressure on Dalvan Beliz crushes this half volley at goal and only a magnificent save by Edward Humes denies the attempt. So we go to penalty kicks. Michael Bradley takes over from Humes but Kevaughn Tablada, the City keeper opens the scoreboard. Bradley gets revenge by scoring on Tablada. Kaysia Requena is successful for City Boys. Keyden Bowen ties the score at 2 apiece. Devin Thurton gives City Boys the 3 – 2 go ahead. Elden Byrd ties it up. The 1st miss comes from Rasheed Lord. Brown Bombers take the lead on this shot from Jonathan Casimiro. Cyril Jones ties things up for City Boys in a must score situation. Up comes Brendon Bouloy and he hots the far post. Dernel Gonzalez unleashes a beauty to restore the City lead. So it’s left up to Jaylen White to tie the score and he does. Tavon Gibson restores the City Boys lead. Keifer Perteau is now the man of the moment for Brown Bombers only to push the ball too close to Kevaughn Tablada who makes the save and City Boys is the 2016 Smart Mundialito champ and we say congratulations. Edward Humes emerged as best goalkeeper. Best defence is Michael Bradley. Best midfielder is Kent Galvez and playoff MVP. Best forward goes to Ruben Darius. MVP for regular season is Kaysia Requeña while best coach is Daniel Smith of Ladyville.

In closing folks, we say big up to Taye Perkinson for wining gold in open single Table Tennis in the CODICADER tournament by defeating Sebastian Mudaja of Panama, 11-4, 11-9. We know the Belize female volleyball won silver by beating El Salvador 25-6, 25-11 in straight sets on Saturday. Good show girls.
