Chervin Tench is Charged for the Murder of Taxi Man Erwin Castillo

A suspect in the murder of thirty-seven-year-old Erwin Castillo has been arrested and charged.  On Monday, nineteen-year-old Chervin Tench was taken into police custody and a single charge was preferred on him in connection with the deadly weekend shooting.  On Friday night around eleven o’clock, Castillo, a cab driver, had just dropped off a passenger in the vicinity of Flamboyant Street when he stopped and held a brief conversation with two individuals.  At that time someone approached him from a nearby property and opened fire on him.  In an attempt to escape from his attacker, Castillo drove off the side of the street, his vehicle coming to rest partially inside a nearby drain.  Despite an extensive criminal record for armed robberies, Castillo is remembered by his relative as a son, brother and father.

“He is a child of a lady, he’s a brother, he’s a father.  So can you please show this sir?  You understand me.  So with that sir, I leave you with that… and like the grieving families who go through this, you know, I feel your pain and like I said, I don’t wish this for anyone because it hurts very much and it’s sad.  And I just wish that, you know what, someday these young folks should just take the guns and do something else because, like I said, this is not the way to solve a problem, with guns.  And I wish that the new government finds something for these youths to enroll in their minds not to commit these crimes.”

Police say Castillo’s murder is part of an ongoing feud between rival gangs in the Lake Independence area.
