Cabinet to Authorizes Investigation into Fire Sale of G.O.B. Assets
Cabinet held its third regular session on Tuesday via a virtual meeting chaired by Prime Minister John Briceño. Among the decisions coming out of that meeting is the launch of a complete investigation into the fire sale of government assets by the previous administration. The probe into the selling off of vehicles, office furniture and other high-end equipment will include input from representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Attorney General’s Ministry and the Ministry of the Public Service. Also coming out of that meeting was a decision to authorize a forensic audit of Belize Infrastructure Limited, including all projects that it oversaw. Among other points raised in the weekly meeting was a proposed legislation to amend the legislation to impose time limits for the delivery of judgments in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. This comes after Attorney General Magali Marin-Young consulted with the President of the Court of Appeal, the Acting Chief Justice and the Belize Bar Association.
