Supreme Court Finds G.O.B.’s Microsoft Contract with SMART Was Valid

The Supreme Court has struck down an application for judicial review by the United Democratic Party in connection with the Microsoft contract awarded to SMART Belize Limited by the Government. On Wednesday, Justice Sonya Young found that the three point four million dollar contract awarded to SMART for Microsoft 365 licenses for a period of one year was validly and rationally entered into with the government. Additionally, she noted that the bid was the lowest and that there was no bias or appearance of bias. Justice Young further underscored the importance of competition for the benefit of the Belizean people. According to a release from the Government Press Office, Government welcomes the ruling they say reaffirms government’s earlier assertions that the tendering process was open, transparent and fair, and without any interference.
