Teenager convicted of Drug Trafficking
In April of this year, Arlene Garay and her cousin, Lloyd James, were arrested for one hundred and twenty-two grams of marijuana after a search of their house on Faber’s Road. But today, after the charge was dismissed against James for lack of evidence, Arlene was found guilty of drug trafficking. Her conviction came after a half day of emotional statements in court where she was unrepresented.
Arlene was spared from going to jail, this afternoon, by Senior Magistrate, Dorothy Flowers and she was fined ten thousand dollars. On April eighteenth, 2009, at about two-thirty p.m., Corporal Mark August and other police officers were on mobile patrol at the corner of Caesar Ridge Road and Faber’s Road, when their attention was drawn to a group of ten men who were hanging out. As the police mobile approached the area, the men scattered and three stayed behind. Police followed one of the men to a house where they found Arlene in possession of a bag containing the weed. Lloyd James was also at the house when the incident occurred.
