Common-law couple charged for machete wielding incident

Augustine Montez

Meanwhile, in the Magistrates Court, a construction worker and his common-law-wife were charged with Aggravated Burglary and Threat of Death in connection with a confrontation that occurred on August second. Augustine Montez and Verna Guzman are accused of storming into the home of Frank Trapp, armed with a machete. Police say they threatened to kill Trapp if they saw him again. Guzman was arraigned two days after the incident and has been released on bail. Montez, however, was not so fortunate when the charges were read to him today and Magistrate Emerson Banner denied bail. He has been remanded to the Central Prison and will return to court on September fifth. The dispute is said to have been over a bicycle that was allegedly stolen from Montez.
