ComPol Williams Gives Update on Rapid Test in B.P.D.

Corporal David Jimenez is one of the hundreds of police officers who were swabbed for COVID-19.  More than three hundred officers are currently off duty due to COVID-19. The Belize Police Department has commenced rapid testing among its members, relieving the burden on the Ministry of Health. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams gave an update on the testing, saying that results have been coming in slowly.

“This began from last week and again as I have said on Monday we did some at Central Region on Saturday where seventy-four officers participated and twelve came out positive. Through dialogue between myself, my minster and the Minister of Health we have been making some inroad. We also understand the strain under which the Ministry of Health or the lab is under in terms of getting out the results due to the number of testing that they are doing. So I am sure they are overwhelmed.  They are still doing their best to help us get the results as quick as we can. We see the results coming, slowly not as fast as we wanted to but the waiting period is less, far less than before and so we are grateful for that.”
