UB Alumni Ball: Dinner, Dance, Award Ceremony and Fundraiser

The University of Belize Alumni Association is hosting its first alumni ball this Saturday night at eight.  The event is a fundraiser to assist students with everything from books to tuition. Invited to attend are graduates of all amalgamated institutions including: University College of Belize, the Belize Teachers College, the Bliss School of Nursing, the Belize College of Agriculture and the Belize Technical College. According to the alumni association’s representative, the event is billed as part of the September celebrations to give a chance to Belizeans in the Diaspora to continue to be a part of the education of new generations.

“What we’re trying to do is raise funds f or much needed students who want or need scholarships to attend the University of Belize. As an alumni, I can say that I could not have been where I am without going to the University of Belize—allow me to be a much rounder student. And so we want to offer the same to other individuals who might not be financially able to do so. And it’s difficult when you have one person to sponsor a child to the university as compared to everyone joining up together and being able to send four or five students to the University of Belize and allow for them to be here and offer the same service to other students or future students. The contribution is a hundred dollars and like we said look at it as an investment for a young person to be able to enhance themselves and advance and become a much better citizen and a much better person for themselves and offer more to the community. It’s it going to be this Saturday at the Belize Biltmore Plaza and we have Gilharry Seven and everyone loves Gilharry Seven—from the young to the old—and they will be providing excellent music for us to entertain you. But come also and look at it as a social event talking about the September celebration embracing your past. I mean how better way to catch up and talk to people you haven’t seen in a long time. Look at it as a reunion and not only for your class but for people from different ages.”

“Yes it is so you got the Belize Technical College, we have the Belize school of nursing, we have the University College of Belize, we have the National Agriculture College. We have the Belize School of Nursing. So if you were an alumni of those institutions, likewise you are an alumni of the university of Belize. Also if you are a friend of the University of Belize can also come and join us. And for those who may say I’m busy on Saturday, you can still offer your contribution.”
