More threats on member of Belizeans for Justice

Belizeans for Justice held its press conference on Monday at the Radisson Fort George without a hitch.  The conference was initially postponed because of a threat received by one of the group’s founding members, Joan Sutherland. Security was beefed up to protect the participants from any potential danger. But while the officers could physically protect her body, none could offer the solace to protect the mind of Joan Sutherland. As soon as our newscast was finished last night, Sutherland received two more threats.  A visibly shaken and angry Sutherland spoke to News Five today and vowed to continue work with Belizeans for Justice in spite of any future threats she may receive.

Joan Sutherland, Member, Belizeans for Justice

joan sutherland

“Last night right after the news I got a text that says, ‘Bxxx I will watch you rot in hell. Why don’t you go on TV and tell the nation what a worthless Bxxx you are Fxxxx pit bull. Your days are numbered dog.’ And this text came from a number which is 630-2455. I didn’t answer it and they sent me another text from the same number that says, “Are you afraid to answer?”

Jose Sanchez

“Why do you think the attack has gotten personal against you? Someone killed your son that has passed now.”

Joan Sutherland

“Well I have no idea why they will attack me and as what you’ve said, I am fighting for justice. And I said it and I’m going to say it again, I joined Belizeans for Justice because me personal, I didn’t get justice for my son. I know I cannot bring him back but I’m fighting to prevent a mother feeling the pain and the grief that I am feeling right now. And no matter what they do to me, I am not going to resign Belizeans for justice.”

Jose Sanchez

“At this point it seems that someone is trying to scare you. Your life may or not be in danger, but at least they are trying to scare you.”

Joan Sutherland

“Well, I know that you can’t take threat easy right now with all the things that is happening in Belize. I’m scared. I’m not going to say I’m not. I’m scared especially for my baby girl and my little grandson. At night, I am scared because I know that they can come into my yard, because they did it the night they threw the flowers and letter on my verandah, you know. So what I am doing right now, I want the public to help me with these two numbers and see who or maybe they have a friend that they know that this number belongs to or anything out there to help me locate this number to see if we could put an end to it.”

Sutherland also received two additional threats recently from another number, 664-5931. She also wanted to publicize that number in hopes that it would put an end to the harassment. Her family has asked her to change her number but she doesn’t think changing it would make a difference.

You’re in our prayers. You have every right to stand up for your child/ren & insist that we get the violence in check. Threatening you may make one coward feel better but please remember that no matter what you do, this thug will stay out there until someone takes him out & shutting up won’t keep him from continuing to act up. As a mother it breaks my heart that your daughter & grandchild are at risk but the mental, spiritual & emotional toll this relentless violence is taking on our children has to stop & standing up will force other mothers to look in the mirror & hopefully join you. Good luck & God bless.

  3. Maddyvandijk says:

This is ridiculous now, The threats are no longer written on a piece of paper, it was sent via phone. The public does not need to help with this matter really, you or the police need to go to the phone company and demand that they traced those numbers back to the caller.

shouldn’t that be an option in this situation?

    good luck, and keep fighting.

What is going on in Belize is a downright rotten shame, apparently, they, the police, are going to wait until this Lady is murdered for her heroic act of standing up for justice. Everyone including the Minister of Police appear to be waitng around like helpless buzzards. As little as Belize is, there should be no way for these kind of threats to be happening, with the police not having a clue as to what is happening. just Imagine the possibilities, Belize City, perhaps , has less than two hundred thousand people, and the inidviduals responsible for law and order are sitting around like ostrichs, with their heads buried in the filth (sand) as if there is a million or more things to do. Shame, Shame, Shame on the Minister of Police, Compol and the PM. Perhaps, they all should resigned or termiated by the people who elected them. Power to the People! Demand Justice! Call for new elections! Change Leadership! End this leadership crisis now!, Stand up Belizeans, let your voices be heard! Do a massive demostration calling for justice!

I want to commend Channel 5 for making telling this story to us and showing us this number. Hopefully, in collaboration with the phone company and police department, this number can be traced.

THIS IS A GAME OF CHESS…….

  9. JEG says:

Its just outright disgrace of how we live in a small community by population size and this madness can not be deterred or any concrete attempts are made for it to be alterred so to speak. Apparently now we have a totally silent PM since a new Police minister is appointed to take the shame of decision making and having the Belizean populace in more fare by incompetence of the Government of the day. I would say this even if the current opposition was in power and didnt haven’t any sense of direction as well. Total chickens without heads leading a distraunt Belizean population!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Earl Grey says:

THIS IS A GAME OF CHESS…….. Question is :- Who are the TRUE PLAYERS moving the peaces around???????…… and WHY????? POLITICIANS like IT when the constituents live in fear….. IT GIVES THEM MORE POWER.

  11. lbice says:

The phone # 664-5931 and 630-2455 was obtained through a phone company.
Why can’t the police trace those numbers from the phone company to the owners of the phones?
    Are they in on it??????????????????????????????????????

  12. El's says:

Don’t give up your fight, if you do, they win. You speak for many Belizeans who are afraid to. Be strong and the rest of us will pray for your protection.

  13. belizeanpride says:

Mom your very strong for reall and my respect goes to you as a woman of pride for fighting what this piece $#^% COPS that can’t even investigate. maybe this NGO should geta private investigator who might deal more professional guess mr. yearwood doesn’t know this facts too.

  14. abi says:

we need mercenary police not related with anyone in Belize!!!!!

  15. Proud Belizean says:

My friend has an iphone and through google earth, while online he can just put my phone number and it zooms in to the street where I am located….seems civilians are more intelligent and better equipped….

go to the phone companies and trace calls. By the way, in Mexico just a few months ago, everyone was asked to register their numbers for them to be operational. That way, it is easy to trace the owners of numbers.
