BYGEA will not plant corn in the buffer area of Harmonyville says PM

Dean Barrow

Then the PM turned from the unions to the group which organized the rally on Saturday. BGYEA wants to plant corn on about sixty acres of buffer zone at Harmonyville and government immediately slapped them with an injunction. So BGYEA took centre stage at the ‘Plant di Corn’ rally. PM Barrow says they can plant as much corn as they want whenever they want wherever they want…as long as it’s not in the buffer zone.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I don’t understand how the N.T.U.C.B. could be asking the government to give way to what in essence is an attempt to engage in an illegal activity. I don’t understand how the N.T.U.C.B. can say this is about planting corn and an uncaring mean cruel government wanting to stop people from planting corn. That is not it at all. All we are saying is, you can’t plant corn on the road reserve for two obvious reasons: the road reserves are there for purpose and the road reserves belong to the government and people. Our position is quite straightforward. We are not going to countenance illegality, lawless behaviour. It is simply not going to happen. If the members of the Harmonyville community really want to plant corn on any portion of the thirteen hundred acres that they own, government will—by way of the Department of Agriculture—make seeds available, make extension services available; may even be prepared to use bulldozers to assist the owners that are in fact planting the corn. It is just that Mister Harmonyville, you will not plant corn on the road reserve.”

“We are not going to countenance illegality, lawless behaviour.” Unless it involves his corrupt ministers, then it’s OK. What a line of BS!
