Marleny Castellanos slapped with additional immigration offenses
This morning, the alleged mastermind in an immigration scam, Marleny Castellanos, was slapped with twenty more charges for illegally aiding at least thirty persons to obtain Belizean nationality documents. Castellanos was in good spirits when she was brought to court. The forty-five-year-old housewife was arraigned before Magistrate Dale Cayetano and she pleaded not guilty to aiding persons to obtain Belize birth certificates and nationality documents. Allegations are that at different times Castellanos aided the following persons, mostly Guatemalan nationals, to obtain nationality documents they are not entitled to by using the names of deceased persons: Rudy Alexander Juarez, Juan Emilio Lobos, Abel Ruiz Reyes, Wendy Marizol Diaz, Lucia Otilia Amador, Luis Estuardo Flores, Mario Anibal Reymundo, Juana Francisca Lopez, Jenny Patricia Arita and Fredy Antonio Lobes.
Castellanos was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison. But soon after her arraignment, another woman, identified as Reyna Leticia Perez Ariano was charged with two counts of using documents not entitled to. Perez is believed to also have been assisted by Castellanos. Perez took a guilty plea and was fined one thousand dollars.
