Mayor Darrell Bradley lashes out at media to protect Eric Chang

On Wednesday, Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley announced that he would be running for a second term of municipal office. He took time to laud the team he’s worked with which includes Councillor Eric Chang. Now Eric Chang’s name came up in the Won Hong Kim passport scandal. Chang had left the country for an extended period of time when the scandal broke and was removed as Deputy Mayor for that absence. At that time, Mayor Bradley led the charge against Chang, demanding an explanation of Chang’s involvement in the scandal. But that’s all water under the political bridge, apparently. When a reporter asked Mayor Bradley about Chang being on any new municipal slate with the scandal hanging over his head, Bradley took great offence and lashed out to protect Chang.

“You run into dangerous ground, and I’m not being in any way…but again I will put this on record that the Eric Chang that I know and I have dealt with over two years and four months is a worker. I know that when we had a hurricane scare Eric Chang went out in a storm in his private vehicle to pick up someone who was incapacitated in a home so with respect again, be careful when you use language like what you have used against a person who my experience has been is a tireless public servant and a person who has been a councillor and in my view has served the city well. In relation to anything that affects those questions, there are processes in this country. We are fortunate to live in a democratic society which has the rule of law. Let those processes work. You will run into dangerous ground when you make statements that expose you to liability against someone who all I have known about him is that he is a tireless public servant. Again I do not say that with any disrespect, but unless you, Mister Novelo, can produce evidence where you stand, the evidence that I have knowing Eric Chang, working with him, is that he gets the job done when I ask him to get the job done.”
Chang has never issued any public statement or made any public explanation for his alleged role in the Won Hong Kim passport scandal.

……………..So,…… Darrell Bradley has learned how to circle the wagons. This is what he meant by 100%, folks. The end — victory at the Citco polls — justifies the means — by hook or by crook. At this rate, imagine what his future in politics look like. It’s a bit sad that he has now decided to adopt the prime minister’s MO. PAY ATTENTION: he never showed the cloven hoof before today.

You all have to read between the lines. He had an about turn. He went from butting heads with the P.M. because of his own personal ambitions to become the leader of UDP and the next P.M., to being a meek and humble mouse. That stemmed from him being chastised for wanting to contest Santi, even after they gave him the option of running against Francis Fonseca. Let’s play this scenario out, promises of more money to cement more streets senselessly , he gets contract for himself from Larry Ellis for garbage and he shuts his mouth about Eric Chang in return for money and votes from the Asian community. What they didn’t count on is that Eric Chang doesn’t have the power in the Asian community. Last say goes through Simon Quan and Lee Mark. They screwed over Lee Mark and pissed him off after elections after he used much of his personal funds to fix up his area and his campaign. They didn’t give him a post. So, he’s got some payback for you. If this Eric Chang is any relative to Maria Chang (Owner of hotel and shop), they used to have clout; no longer do they. If some of you think Dean is arrogant, self-serving and dictatorial, try “Lil Darryl.”
