Road accident leaves woman dead, father critical
Today friends and family are mourning the loss of a loved one following a traffic accident on the Northern Highway on Saturday night. According to Hubert Faber Junior, around seven that night he was driving family members to Corozal because their grandmother had passed away and relatives were planning the funeral. But Faber says as he neared a series of curves near mile sixty-five, he was blinded by the headlights of a vehicle from the opposite direction. He maintains he lost control and ran off the road, but quickly steered the car back onto the highway. However, as he rounded the next curve, Faber says another oncoming car was in the middle of the road and as he tried to avoid a collision, his vehicle slipped off the highway again and flipped a number of times. In the car at the time were his father Hubert Faber Senior, his sisters Kenisha and Sharon Faber, and his nephew Nicholi Faber. Kenisha was sitting in the backseat, but during the accident was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Hubert Senior remains admitted to ward at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in critical condition suffering from head and body injuries. The driver, Hubert Junior, suffered injuries to his left shoulder, but was treated and released. Twenty-three year old Kenisha Faber was an employee of Mikado’s in Belize City and today co-workers designed a picture memorial for the young woman in the store’s front window. Family members at the K.H.M.H. today say they will now begin the grim task of planning two funerals, one for their sister and another for their grandmother.
