B.T.B. relay triathlon tops weekend sports calendar
As part of official tourism week activities, this Sunday, the B.T.B. is sponsoring a relay triathlon in Belize City. And according to organisers, with first prize set at nine hundred dollars and a trophy, participants are lining up to swim, ride and run their way across the finish line. We caught up with Leila Peyrefitte of the National Triathlon Association earlier today for the rules of the race.
Leila Peyrefitte, Treasurer, National Triathlon Assn.
?One female must be a participant in the race, in the team of three. It?s going to be a swim of point four miles, the ride will be fifteen miles, and the run will be three miles; at the same location that we usually have it every year, the Sandlighter?s Promenade.?
?There are certain rules and we hope that you all abide by the rules. For example, all cyclists must wear a helmet, all runners must be on the right side of the road running, and that all participants must tag their team mate in order for the next portion to go on. So when a swimmer comes out, he/she must tag the rider and then the rider must tag the runner.?
?It?s a Sunday and hopefully the sun will be out, so we invite the family to come out and have a fun day.?
Registration for the relay triathlon closed at five today, but if you missed the sign up, there is another similar event planned in March. According to officials, Belize will be represented in a triathlon in Costa Rica later this year.
