US Ambassador presents credentials to the GG

The media was not allowed on the grounds of Belize House this morning, but we were invited to the US Embassy parking lot for an impromptu, very brief word from Ambassador Moreno. As we told you, he and his wife Christine arrived a few days ago, but notwithstanding the unexpected mini-protest this morning, they seem to be looking forward to the Belizean experience.

“I’m delighted to have arrived in Belize as the official representative of the United States of America. My wife and I are looking forward to a very productive three years here in Belize. It’s a wonderful country with marvellous natural resources not only on the coast but in the interior among the many Mayan archaeological sites. And I have to comment really on the diversity of the people in Belize…in many ways very similar to the diversity I have experienced in California as the son of Mexican immigrants but California as you may know has a very diverse population, including I might add a substantial number of Belizeans who reside and travel back and forth from Belize to California. So I feel that experience has given me a very good background to advance the interests of the Unite States in matters of mutual interest to Belize and the United States.  My wife Christine has joined me. Her background is in art and animation education. I should note that she is also an avid scuba diver so we are looking forward to exploring the man wonderful natural preserves and so forth here in Belize.”
