Sixty year old Irma Cocom of Jane Usher Boulevard said she had just told her son goodbye when twenty minutes later she received the news that he had been shot. Twenty-five year old Bruce Cocom lay dead on Central American Boulevard by a shop where he had stopped to buy a drink. According to Belize City police, Cocom was standing outside of the establishment when a young man approached him. Witnesses told authorities the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several shots in Cocom’s direction. Cocom was hit once in the left side of his chest and once in the right hand. His mother says she does not know why anyone would want her son dead.
