Former Bar President says PM release is a distraction from real issue

As we told you, former President of the Bar Andrew Marshalleck is specifically named in the release. Today, he told us that the release is just a red herring to distract from the real issue which is the PM’s appointment of Awich, and not Awich or the Court of Appeal.

“As officers of the court, the members of the Bar, all of us are officers, are members of the court and we have a duty to respect the courts and we respect the courts. When you look at the Bar Resolution, the resolution is directed to the manner in which Judge Awich was appointed. Now the court doesn’t appoint itself, Judge Awich does not appoint himself; those appointments are made by the Prime Minister and if they give rise to criticism, it arises not because of anything the courts did or the judge did, but because of the manner in which the prime minister choose to make the appointments. In all fairness to Judge Awich, he had no control over when and how that reappointment would take place. The bar resolution expresses concern over the manner in which government chose to effect that reappointment and the press release seems to deflect attention away from the fact that the concern arose from the conduct of the government and seek to hide it behind the good offices of the judge and seek refuse there. I notice that the concern he expressed had to do with the small numbers in attendance at the Bar meeting and the suggestion that such a puny minority can speak for the majority. Well that’s how democracies work; even the prime minister speaks for the people of Belize. He does so by virtue of his party having gained a majority of seats in the House of Representatives. If you look to the percentage of voters who voted in last general election, I think you would see that seventy percent or so of the people turned out. And of that seventy percent, about half of it, thirty-five percent supported U.D.P. candidates. So you have a Prime Minister speaking for all the people of Belize base on the votes of about thirty-five percent of the people. How is he able to do that? He is able to do that because the constitution allows for it; it provides for elections to work that way. How is the Bar able to pass a resolution to say what it did, it is like fashion, because the constitution of the Bar Association provides for that to be done.”
MANY members of the bar and only PUP’S re talking ..this is a national issue thats affecting all the bar,but like always those like dennis barrow,lois young and all other big members of the bar that are UDP’S they are eating from the dean barrow government and are getting richer and richer while the judiciary is failing in all angles,and the poor Belizeans have to suffer the consecuences,so sad of the state of Belize,dean barrow will attack who ever is against him in his corrupt moves and he will do whatever he can de deswade those that are against him…COLA,SATIM,OCEANA,NTUCB,ROC,etc,and the thousands that are suffering under this corrupt,arrogant,ignorant upd govt’ only cronies,family members of the ministers are benefiting from dean barrow and his corrupt govt’….when he took over BTL,BEL and BWS..he said its for the benefit of all Belizeans and in the name of all Belizeans I taught we would all benefit buy he lied,only his cronies and family members are benefiting,what has Belizeans gotten out of the profits of BEL,BTL>? NOTHINGGGGGGGG like I said only cronies and family members are the only ones and a few choosen are benefiting andthe majority continue to suffer the high unemloyment,high cost of living,failing police dept’,corrupt DPP,corrupt commisioner of police,corrupt judges,failing health system,failing education system,failing -corrupt lands deptand he no fu%&*** have shame to continue and says ‘ MY govt’ IS FOR THE PRO-POOR Belizeans,rasssssss dean barrow no know the word “shame”…he only knows “distastefull”…in the end the Belizeans will have the say,power to the people!
