Robbery suspect apprehended with illegal firearms
A Belize City man appeared in court today to answer to charges that he robbed a store on Wednesday and was later found with unlicensed weapons and ammunition. Maxwell Anderson of North Creek in Belize City appeared before Magistrate Sharon Fraser where he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He was remanded to custody until January twenty-fourth. The charges stems from an incident that occurred on Wednesday at “Sum it Up” grocery on Dolphin Street. Santiago Castillo Limited employees Douglas Lamb and William Martinez reported that when they entered the shop a man was buying a soft drink. As they waited for the customer’s order to be filled, a masked gunman burst into the store, held a gun to Lamb’s head, and told the man buying the drink to grab his cash bag. It was then they realized the two were working together. After the robbers took the bag, they fled the scene. However, that same afternoon Anderson and another man were picked up by police after they were seen circling the area in a silver Toyota Corolla. Two unlicensed handguns were found during a search of the car, along with unlicensed ammunition. Only Anderson has been charged so far in connection with both incidents.
