9 long weekends in 2006 holiday schedule
While many merchants are handing out calendars for the new year, not all of them have the public and bank holidays marked in red. So if yours are missing, or you have an internationally made date book you’d like to Belizeanize, grab a pencil because here are the official holidays for 2006. Monday, January second will be given off since New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday; Monday, March sixth is Baron Bliss Day to give a long weekend; the Easter holidays begin with Good Friday on April fourteenth and ends April seventeenth on Holy Monday. Labour Day is May first, which conveniently falls on a Monday; and what we usually call Commonwealth Day, May twenty-second, is now listed as Sovereign’s Day. That is also on a Monday. After that, the next public holiday does not occur until Monday, September eleventh, which will be observed as National Day since September tenth is on a Sunday. Monday, October ninth is Pan American Day or Day of the Americas; Garifuna Settlement Day falls on a Sunday, so Monday, November twentieth will be given off. Christmas Day ’06 will be on a Monday, and Boxing Day follows on the Tuesday. And now that you have your upcoming holidays noted for the entire year, you can relax and look forward to this Monday and Tuesday which are being given off for Christmas and Boxing Day, which this year happened to fall on the weekend.
