4 Guatemalan farmers caught gold panning
A delegation of Guatemalan parliamentarians was in the country last week visiting the Chiquibul. But on the heels of the visit, the Prensa Libre is reporting that four residents of the community of Monte Olivos, Dolores, Peten, were captured by Belizean soldiers last Friday when they were mining for gold in a river near the adjacency zone between Guatemala and Belize. The detainees are Guatemalan nationals: fourteen year old Marcony Gonzalo Cucul Quix, twenty-five year old Rubén Ac Tec, thirty year old Jeyner Saquir Chavez, and forty-eight year old Joseph Caal. The gold panners were taken to the San Ignacio police station. It is not known if they have been transferred to the Hattieville Prison.
