Taiwan gives funds for stolen car trafficking network
A project to assist in the recovery of stolen vehicles got its third and final financial instalment this week from the Republic of China on Taiwan. Ambassador Charles Tsai presented a check for almost one hundred and twenty-seven thousand Belize dollars to Minister of Home Affairs Ralph Fonseca. A previous amount of three hundred and seventy-eight thousand dollars was received in May. The funds will be used to develop a Central American Network Information System for the location and recovery of stolen vehicles.
In related news, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the Police Information Technology Unit has completed the installation of servers to support an automatic fingerprinting identification system which will come on stream in the near future. In addition, a communications system is also being put in place which will link police department outposts throughout the country.
