Father, daughter, and unborn child die in collision

Story PictureA woman, her unborn child, and her father were killed in a terrible crash on the Northern Highway last night. News Five went to the scene today and spoke with police about the tragedy and the need for motorists to be cautious, especially as the holidays approach.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Police are trying to determine what caused this eighteen wheel truck and this four door Honda Accord car to collide. The smaller vehicle bore the brunt of the impact: the car?s bumper, license plate, and engine parts were scattered along the crash site between miles fifteen and sixteen. The truck, which ran off the Northern Highway, hit a water hydrant before it slammed into a tree and fence. The car?s driver, forty-seven year old Alfred Price and his twenty-five year old daughter Primose Logan, who was thirty-six weeks pregnant, suffered major head and body injuries.

Sgt. Christopher Noble, O.C. Ladyville Police Station
?The vehicles extensively damaged, one on either side of the highway. There was someone that was alive, one of the passengers in the car, but whilst being attended to by the medical team that person passed away. The other person passed away apparently on impact.?

Both father and daughter were on their way to Orange Walk when the collision occurred. The truck driver, identified as twenty-five old Wilhelm Reimer, was not hurt. Reimer, an employee of Valley Ranch Enterprises Limited in Blue Creek in the Orange Walk District, had been headed to Ladyville to deliver a load of white marl. The accident occurred around seven p.m., and the area had to be closed for sometime to allow the emergency medical technicians and the police to do their work. Sgt. Christopher Noble, the officer in charge of Belize Rural, advises all motorists to drive carefully especially around this time of the year.

Sgt. Christopher Noble
?We want to ask everybody to be very careful on the highways. This is one time that everybody speaks about it, but a lot of us don?t practice it. And we would not want that practice, because this is very sad. The lady that passed away was pregnant and in essence it was not two people that died, it was three. To see loved ones passed away like this is very sad.?

Some reports reaching News Five indicate that the car was not in its own lane as it went around the dangerous curve; however the accident remains under investigation.
