Three more charged in Saturday?s grisly shootings
Police have filed additional charges tonight in connection with Saturday night’s grisly shootings in Belize City. According to authorities, twenty-seven year old Leroy Rhaburn, eighteen year old Brent Garoy, and twenty year old Burton Garoy have all been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. No plea was taken and the three defendants have been remanded to Hattieville Prison until January nineteenth. The charges stem from a shooting incident around nine on Saturday night near the intersection of Bishop and West streets. It is alleged that Rhaburn, also known as “Red Ants,” was in the company of the Garoys when he pulled out a handgun and fired five shots in the direction of Edison Chee and Michael Samuel. No one was injured then, but within hours Rhaburn’s son, the baby’s mother, and a family friend were viciously gunned down as they sat near their home in Taylor’s Alley. Baby Leroy Rhaburn Junior might lose his arm and his mother Lisa Garoy will never walk again. Hospital authorities tell News Five tonight that all three patients remain admitted to ward in stable condition.
And in correction to a major police snafu, last night authorities provided the wrong picture of the man arrested for the Taylor Alley shooting. The man charged with multiple offences of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and aggravated assault is in fact this man, twenty year old Brandell Michael. Michael, who worked as a messenger for the court, has been remanded until his next court date in January.
