Sol Group donates 800+ toys to Salvation Army

Story PictureAnother Belizean business has answered the Salvation Army’s call for more toys…and in a big way. During brief handing over ceremonies this morning, the Sol Group, formerly the Shell Group of Companies, donated exactly eight hundred and twenty-nine items to the army’s toy drive. According to Sol Belize’s general manager Joe Habet, the gift is a joint effort by the corporation and its employees.

?In our meeting with management, we decided to help. What we did was give a five thousand dollar contribution from the company and we took up another five hundred dollar contribution from the staff, so the total donation is five thousand five hundred dollars…part from the company, part from staff. Let me add to that too, all the items were purchased from A & R, they gave us a twenty percent discount on all the items, so that even magnified it more. So we were able to get a lot more items than we thought, so it?s quite a significant donation.?

?It makes you feel good, it?s Christmas and we all want to help wherever we can. We know that there?s a lot of organisations asking for help, and we just try to help.?

Major Errol Robateau, Commander, Salvation Army
?This donation is actually going to the Hummingbird Highway, from Belmopan right down to as far as we can go. Last year we went as far as Dangriga and we?ll see how far we can reach. We also will be doing the Maskall road and any other village along that road. We have targeted Maskall in particular because that?s where we did last year and we go along the highway, so whatever village we stop in, it?s like a Santa surprise. It?s a joy to see the kids running from the hills, through the bushes, coming for their toys and that?s one of the joys. Our advisory board members, we usually take one or two of them, to not only to see what is happening but also to give their support.?

?I know this is a lot of toys you are getting today, but there are still plenty more children, are you still asking the community to donate if they can??

Major Errol Robateau
?Yes, the more they donate, the more we can give. Actually last year we did over two thousand five hundred children and we are hoping that we can do that. With this amount that we get, we are near that target.?

If you would like to donate to the Salvation Army’s toy drive, please contact Major Robateau at forty-one Regent Street.
