Minister Longsworth Says No Deadline on Marion Jones Complex…

Herman Longsworth

The ongoing debacle which the F.F.B. finds itself in, not being able to field the Belmopan Bandits in the 2014 Champions League tournament, is one that many sports enthusiasts, including the minister with responsibility for that specific portfolio, have shared opinions.  Despite the many expressions of disappointment, critics of Minister of Youth and Sports Herman Longsworth believe that he is unfit to speak on the matter since the Marion Jones Sporting Complex which he is also responsible for remains to be completed several years after ground was initially broken on the project.  This afternoon, Longsworth defended the tardiness of the development.

Herman Longsworth, Minister of Youth & Sports

“So I don’t know that even if we were able to ask the international body or the regional body, CONCACAF, to rethink their decision, I don’t know that the field will be ready in time. So what would that get us?  Where would that get us?”

Isani Cayetano

“What about critics of yours who would say that you are not the fittest person to comment on a situation like this in light of the fact that the Marion Jones [Sporting Complex] for instance still has not been completed?”

Herman Longsworth

“Well we’ve never promised that the Marion Jones would be completed for any competition of this sort.  We are continuing to work, when the Marion Jones is finished we will then be able to use it.  I believe that we should be responsible in what we do.  We will not, I certainly will not, make any commitment to host or have any event whatsoever played or any activity had on that facility until it’s ready.  I won’t go out and publicly say that we will have anything there until it is ready. So yes we can be criticized for maybe taking longer than everybody had hoped, even longer than I had hoped.  But certainly nobody can say that we had created this interest in the majority of the Belizean public to have something there and then we couldn’t have it and we disappointed everybody.”

I would like to know why in this world we don’t have a stadium in Belize that meets the necessary requirements and regulations. I hear this minister of youth and sports, and honestly it make me very mad. Who votes for this people? This guy does not know what the heck the word leader means. With all due respect, I really don’t want to offend anyone, but I must say what I need to say. Are we being governed by idiots? Of course, you can’t use something if it is not finished. Who does not know that? So now he blames FFB Leadership for all this mess. Never will he accept the fact that he has just sat there and done nothing. Well, I have some advice for you. BUILD A DAMN STADIUM FOR THE PEOPLE. Forget about FFB. Build something that will benefit us, the people. You see, a good stadium is a valuable asset for a city. That is why many cities around the world own their stadiums and lease them the sporting clubs. If you had been prepared Belize would have not lost all the revenue that comes from participating in this type of tournaments. Minister, you have nothing to defend. If you don’t do your job, nobody else will.

Longsworth is talking horse poop…..u need to resign along with the bunch of idiots running our country. U pocket all that money and didnt do nada. I cant wait for elections to come and vote all a uno out. We need fi bring back Manuel Esquivel to run this country. Dean Barrow no di cut it. And for sure Francis Fonseca no di cut it either. We need Jorge or Mark Espat or Cordell Hyde fi be our prime minister. Everyone else is incompetent.
