PADD unveils billboard against drunk driving
Following the deaths of too many Belizeans at the hands of drunk drivers, this past October frustrated families and friends of victims formed PADD: Parents Against Drunk Driving. In one of its first official acts as an organisation, on Thursday afternoon the first billboard sign was unveiled on the San Antonio Road in the Orange Walk District. According to PADD coordinator Antoinette Young, the site of the sign is the exact spot where fifteen year old Alejandro Chan was knocked down and killed as he was walking on the side of the road. Chan would have turned sixteen on Thursday. PADD hopes to post similar signs throughout the country. The group’s next meeting will be on Monday night at the Orange Walk Town Hall. On December eleventh, PADD will be meeting with the residents of San Jose at the village’s community centre in the Orange Walk District.
