Government Officials Comment on Segura’s Traffic Mishap

The Road Safety Annual Review, ironically, comes on the heels of one of the most high profile cases involving drunk driving in recent memory. The fatal road traffic accident on Saturday which claimed the life of Yolanda Valencia and landed Yanie Cu in the K.H.M.H. fighting for his life involved Deputy Commissioner of Police Miguel Segura. Today, we asked the C.E.O. Gentle, as well as Minister of State, Santiago Castillo Jr., for their thoughts on the issue.

“It’s a pitiful incident actually and of course Mr. Segura will have his day in court. In Belize we are still innocent until proven guilty but all I have to say is that it shows that if we are going to drink we need to have a designated driver and I am proud of the government and the police that acted quickly and decisively.”

“Very, very unfortunate incident indeed, very unfortunate but the mere fact that within twenty-four hours the individual was taken before the court and was charged and is remanded. It speaks volumes that yes they can police their own.”
Segura, who is on interdiction pending the outcome of the case, is due back in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on October ninth.
Gentle and Castillo the two of you are full of caca the only reason that this cop was charged is because he was videotaped and because their were several witnesses to this crime not to say because the people of this country are sick and tired of this thieving murderous pm and gov. Those are the reasons this man was charged but it hasn’t ended yet the police did not do their job properly why was this man allowed to go home right after the accident why was he not arrested right their and then like anybody else would have why did they wait so long to give him a blood test this is pure negligence to me if this man gets off in any way shape or form the people of this village should start burning down the whole town pure corruption and you have the nerve to pat yourselves on the back what a shame . I hop to god this family sues this gov. For at least 10 million dollars and then the taxi driver should sue this gov for another 10 million dollars and if they don’t they are just plain stupid this police officer was driving a gov. Vehicle so the gov is responsible sue them good people make them feel your pain.

It is a crying shame that someone who purports to uphold and enforce the laws of the country is a lawbreaker everytime he gets pissing drunk. Pathetic.

How ironic! Segura, the top cop, was impotent; he was able to confiscate (as they usually do) the camera or cell phone that took his picture. Was he too drunk? Or was he so confident that his PM and his minister of police will come to his rescue and there would be no charge. PM: “it is not crime, it is just a driving mishap that can happen to anyone; no apology, no crime committed!”
Why would Castillo make such a light statement on such a horrible crime that could have been avoided. It is shameful that he could go home and not be in jail. He is a criminal with no regard for his safety and that of others. Government needs to stop saving their official criminals. The blood of this woman is crying out for justice!! This man needs to be fired. He has no right holding a position such as this. No respect should be given to him!!
