Sherwin Yarwood is Belize’s 71st murder victim

Twenty days of peace on the streets of Belize City were shattered last night by a single gunshot, as shortly after dawn this morning police would discover the body of yet another young man lying in a pool of his own blood. Today I joined investigators at the scene as they searched for a motive behind an execution style murder.

Just after seven this morning, the body of twenty-year old Sherwin Yarwood was discovered approximately twenty-five yards off Southern Foreshore inside this open and abandoned lot.

?There were obvious signs of violence on the body and there seems to have been some injuries to the eyes and there was what appeared to be a gunshot wound.?

The Yarwood family declined to appear on camera, but tonight we understand that the young man was shot once in the back of the head. At the scene, police recovered the victim?s bicycle. It is strongly suspected that Yarwood was shot and killed by someone he knew and possibly had arranged to meet with the individual sometime last night.

?The evidence we have so far, which includes the report of the shot being fired would indicate that it occurred there at that spot and the fact that the bicycle was with him, one would not think that a person would move a body they would bother to move a bicycle also. So it seems as if this happened right at that spot where he was found. Exactly how it happened, why it happened these are questions now that are being asked.?

One thing we do know is that Sherwin Yarwood is no stranger to the police. In fact the family told News Five that on numerous occasions they advised their loved one to change his lifestyle, but his only comment to them would be ?unu no know what I have to face out deh.?

?He has been a number of times detained and at the police station. It is an unfortunate situation. He is a man that I spoke to myself a time or two. It is a life he chose and unfortunately he now leaves his family behind to grieve.?
