Man sentenced to 10 years for robbery
Convicted robber, twenty six-year old Dillon Diamond is serving his first night of a ten year sentence for attempted robbery. The Taylor’s Alley resident is accused of holding up at three men and attempting to rob Geovanni Quijano of his cell phone. But he was caught in the act by a police mobile that pulled up in the area of East Canal after midnight on June twentieth, 2013. Diamond disposed of the homemade sawed off shotgun into a nearby canal and hid behind a parked vehicle. That’s where police officer Ashton Flowers found him wearing a mask. Diamond’s trial concluded this afternoon before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith; two witnesses including Quijano testified saying he pointed a double barrel object at them demanding that they hand up their cell phones. In his defence, Diamond denied that he attempted to rob the men instead claiming that a group of men were heading to beat him and that is why he tried to leave the area. Police recovered the homemade shot gun as well as the black stocking Diamond was caught wearing. The Chief Magistrate said she was satisfied that Diamond held up the group but luckily the police interrupted him from robbing the men. Diamond has previous convictions for robbery and wounding.
