Belize Port Authority hosts strategy workshop
With the entire eastern coast of our country bounded by the Caribbean Sea, our port facilities play a key role in both the importation and exportation of goods. With security and development in mind, today the Belize Port Authority pulled together the various agencies which use the ports to see how to foster a positive climate for coastal commerce. News Five spoke with Chief Safety and Security Officer at the Belize Port Authority, Kendrick Daly, about the sessions at the Princess Hotel.
Kendrick Daly, Chief Port Safety & Security Officer
?The Port Strategy workshop or seminar is designed to get all the major stakeholders, shipping agents, port operators in the port sector to sit together and discuss and plan ways how we can develop the Port in such a way that will enable it to be a more productive or competitive within the region.?
Karla Heusner
?What are the main issues that you expect are going to be tabled today??
Kendrick Daly
?Most of all, development is the main thing and we want to discuss with the other relevant agencies, things like tariffs and other management strategies so we can level off and balance with or neighbours.?
?Most of our goods are imports and it is moved by ship, so whether they like it or not, Belize is a maritime nation, so that?s the way how we get our products to Belize. The other nations in the regions are faster developing and we need to keep abreast of them so that we are up in the world and balance it off, just as they do.?
The Port Strategy workshop ends tomorrow in Belize City.
