Children’s Rally Draws Thousands

The annual Children’s Rally was to be held last week Friday in Belize City, but due to the inclement weather it was postponed. That is until today, when primary school students gathered at Bird’s Isle in Belize City. Thousands of students were bused in for the event that saw several performances speeches of encouragement on the future goals of youths in Belize. Motivational Speaker, Anthony Gill and Deputy Chief Education Officer, Carol Babb, addressed the gathering.

Anthony Gill, Motivational Speaker

Anthony Gill

“This is our time…it is time for a drastic change; it is time to make the difficult decisions, it is time to take responsibility for our actions and accept the consequences. Most importantly, it is time to stand and be accountable. We have made excuses and not enough outlooks. Some of you may be raised by both parents; some of you may be raised by single mother, single father or some other relative; some of you may live in areas where violence, drugs, abuse and gangs may be prominent, some of you may live in poverty, but regardless of your situation remember the choices we make today will always create changes for our tomorrow.”

Carol Babb

Carol Babb, Deputy Chief Education Officer

“We want all of you children to stay in school and to be the best students so that you can take over from us. We want you all to start to think about becoming prime ministers, minister of education, education officers, general managers. We will not be here and we need you to stay in school so that you can take over Belize and so that Belize can be a place that we can all live in freedom.”
