Notice of Intended Prosecution for Shop Owner in Orange Walk Shooting Death
In addition to the murders in Cayo and Belize City, on Friday, one of two robbers at a Chinese store in Orange Walk Town was killed. The robbers held up the attendant inside the store and stole five hundred dollars in cash and two cell phones. But as they fled the scene, the proprietor of Hung Yun Store, on the Otro Benque Road of Orange Walk Town, took out his licensed nine millimeter pistol, followed them and fired several shots in their direction. Thirty year old Leslie Logan Junior, a former police constable, was hit to the right side of the body and collapsed on the street. He died while being transported to the Northern Regional Hospital located just across from where the incident occurred. The handgun believed to have been used by the robbers was retrieved as well the licensed nine millimeter pistol belonging to the shop owner. Today, Police Press Officer Raphael Martinez told the media that the proprietor was initially detained and has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution.

“The police visited a store on Otro Benque Road by the name of Hung Yun Store where the owner of that store reported that they were robbed by gunpoint by two male persons of dark complexion who made off with over a thousand dollars in cash and other items during which the owner pulled out his licensed nine millimeter firearm and fatally injured one of the robbers who was later identified as thirty year old Leslie Kenrick Logan of a Santa Familia address in Orange Walk. Police have since detained that owner of the store and have also issued a notice of intended prosecution to him as investigation continues. Of course he has been released since Friday. He has been released pending investigation. If something new comes up, we will definitely prosecute it.”

“Sir there is some reports that his intent to defend himself may have been forfeited when he pursued this alleged robber unto the street and then shot and killed him. Is that what police is investigating at this time?”

He should get a medal and not be prosecuted.

I fully understand the letter of the law . . . but I also understand that the people of Belize are under siege by the criminal element in our society. Severe action needs to be taken to stop them. I would not mind seeing a few hundred more of those social deviant predators end up with a few bullet holes in them.

There is something very wrong with this picture. How many people have been killed and no one has been arrested. Let this man go, do not prosecute him. If the police charge this man it sends a message to the lawless idiots that their right are protected above those of the law abiding citizens.
This guy was a police officer, what happened that he is no longer on the force. Obviously he does not give a damn about his father’s position to the community. HE decided to commit a crime, he paid the price, case closed. LET THIS MAN GO. How many chinese store owners have been killed.
A friend of mine was on a bus that went by as it happened. The owner chased the robbers and shot one who then fell. Had he left it at that, maybe it could be called “self-defence” but he then lost it. He emptied several more bullets into the man; kicked him in the head, and lifted up his body and dropped it on the ground again and walked away. One could say he was not of sound mind so not murder, but certainly. he killed him when incapacitating him would have been sufficient.
So lets analyse this: crook shoots honest, hard working citizen, crook gets away. Honest, hard working citizen shoots crook and he is issued a notice of intent to prosecute?

Is there one person in the police department that has any sense? Is it our laws that are flawed or is just that the PD is incompetent or is it both?

Tangential to this incident..I am hearing from people from Canada, all of the Caribbean, South America that the Chinese are coming in droves little by little to their countries. My hypothesis is that in 20 years they will dominate the west. There is a conspiracy that the chinese government is stealthily occupying the rest of the world and they all seem to be in the grocery business. They show up with millions buy there residency from corrupt politicians. They are every where even Otro Benque. The chinese population has reached over a billion people and they are looking to expand beyond their walled borders. I don’t see the west going to China and opening bodegas. Go figure.
About 6 or 7 years ago, two robbers went into a shop located on freetown road, held up the shop owner, assaulted the owner, the robbers were thrown out by shop customers, the shop owner took out his licensed firearm, pursued the alleged robbers (cause they left with nothing) and shot one dead on the back and left him lying on the street. This shop owner ( of asian culture (taiwanese, japanese, chinese etc etc)) was then deffended by the Chinese association when Lee Mark Chang was the president of such association. He was aquitted of all charges EVEN THO HE WAS SHOT IN THE BACK. Why is there an intention of prosecution for this shop owner, when our legal system is based on JUDICIAL PRECEDENTS and this is obviously the same story….. Police needs to ACTUALLY DO SOME WORK AND NOT JUST STAND INFRONT OF A MEDIA CAMERA AND SAY THEY`RE WORKING….. I JUST SOLVED THIS CASE FOR YOU ALL, AND NOT ONE CENT OF OUR BELOVED TAX DOLLARS WENT INTO IT!!!
