Convicted murderer gets life in prison
A convicted murderer has been sentenced to life in prison. Twenty-one year old Harvey Lee Henderson of Corozal, found guilty last week in the chopping death of Alfonso Santos, was today spared the hangman’s noose by Justice Adolph Lucas. Noting that the killing could be classified as either a “Class A” or “Class B” murder, Lucas opted for the lesser classification, which allowed him to take extenuating circumstances into account and send Henderson to prison instead of death. The murder occurred on January eleventh, 2004 in Corozal. Henderson was defended by Simeon Sampson while the case for the prosecution was presented by journalist turned lawyer Audrey Matura. It was Matura’s first of what will no doubt be many murder cases.
