PC David Griffith Arraigned for Manslaughter of Rasheed Elijio

Raphael Martinez

Eighteen-year-old Rasheed Elijio was shot and killed in Punta Gorda Town in May 2013 while attempting to escape police custody.  He was reportedly shot to the left side of the body in the Carib Reserve Area.  It has been over a year since the incident and the family is finally getting some closure. Police Constable David Griffith has been formally arraigned for manslaughter for the death of Elijio.  Curiously, however, he was charged in the San Ignacio Magistrates’ Court.

Raphael Martinez, Police Press Officer

“Yes indeed. He was arraigned in the San Ignacio Magistrate Court. He was brought in of course and this was all in relation to the shooting death of Raheem Elijio that occurred in Punta Gorda last year I think it was. Last year when he escaped from police custody and he was later found shot dead. PC David Griffith has since been charged with manslaughter for this shooting incident.”

Griffith was also named in the 2010 murder of Teddy Murillo in Belize City. He is on interdiction from the force.

Your day has finally come Griffith. I guess you’ve fallen out of favour with the Police Force since it looks like they will no longer cover for you. Do you remember the words of Danalyn Sebastian-Murrillo? Hmmmmm She might not have gotten justice for her son but she will see it play out somewhere else. The streets have nothing nice to say about you.
