GSU Under Attack, Claims of Police Brutality Resurface Yet Again

Intimidation, violence, brutality, excessive force – it seems that almost every week these words are used where the Police Department’s most elite unit is concerned. The Gang Suppression Unit is supposed to be well trained and aggressive, but you’d also assume it means disciplined. On that last part, auto-shop owner Allan McCoy would strongly disagree. He says that he was brutalized by the GSU early Saturday morning. In a nutshell, there was an accident in which a GSU officer was knocked down off his cycle by a vehicle which didn’t stop. McCoy was heading home from a club the same time and the GSU though he was the hit and run artist. He says they chased him onto the George Price Highway and even fired shots, and when he stopped, they threw him to the ground. McCoy says the men accused him of causing the accident and even though he told them that they could verify that he was at the club just moments before, and not in the vicinity of the accident, they refused to listen. They put him in the vehicle and took him to the scene of the accident at the corner of North Front Street and Douglas Jones Street, but he says even in the vehicle they started hitting him.

Allan McCoy, Alleges GSU Brutality

“The officer who was in the back of the pickup with me all the while, he got back in the truck and he start to punch me up ina mi midsection, ina mi belly and ina mi ribcage. Punch me a few times ina mi head and ina mi face. The one weh get me upset dah when ih punch me and ih ketch mi ina mi face. When they finish the assault, the frist wave of assault weh dehn had pan mi with that officer deh, several of the GSU weh mi deh pan the scene start to come over one after the other and di hit mi. Everybody take dehn turn. When the second wave started again, the same officer weh mi di beat mi up the first time, he jump in and start to beat me up again. By this time, one of the officers  mi already beat mi ina mi face and that dah weh…ih cut mi underneath mi eye and swell up mi face side. So he come and beat mi up again and then the female GSU weh mi deh haul out wah long rod and she start to strike me ina mi chest like I dah fish. I mean with wah metal rod, you di strike mi ina my chest, that really hurt. But again, like I say, I noh say nothing; I left them alone. I never try resist ina any way, try get up or anything because I know that’s the opportunity dehn di look fa. Mark Flowers came on the scene and because I know his face, I know him on Facebook and everything, I said Mister Flowers, this weh unu di do wrong. I said come on, I am not a criminal and unu guys know who I am. I recently work on a vehicle fi unu; a red Mitsubishi L200 four-door pickup weh unu had transmission problem with, with the shift lever and it wasn’t taking gears and unu brought it over to me. You guys had brought it over and ask me if I want it with a purchase order. I said, I told you I noh want no purchase order because dah wah police vehicle, unu di use it for police work and I can’t help unu out yah. But if I can help unu ina some other way, I willing to do it beucase we need to slow down crime at least. I say, come on, and this dah the way now you wah treat me after you say that you dah wah abusive man and you noh wah encourage violence. He said, you realize that you nearly kill one of fi we officers. I tell ahn it wasn’t me. Please go dah MJ’s and check the video; ask the security, as the owner and yow ah find out that I been there all the while. Ih say shut up; I know dah you. Yo noh need fi di lie. We done know that you; we got yo. I tell ahn unu got the wrong person. I saw him approach me from the back coming at an angle and when ih reach behind me, ih bax me inna mi head.”

This is so wrong on so many levels. A branch of the police force can do this to anyone and no one in authority cares. These are cases that we should have lawyers clamoring for, but unfortunately, not so.

  2. Retired CEO says:

Apparently the GSU is no more than a Gestapo Street Unit. How in the name of justice can anyone treat their citizens which such brutality in order to make them confess to a crime or any incident that they maybe suspected of doing. They apparently they are jury, judge and executioner roaming the streets of the jewel. If a person surrenders to law and order, why? treat them with such extreme brutality?
