Criminals quiet: no murders in three weeks
In weekend crime the big news is that… there isn’t much news… and yes, it’s a pleasure to report. According to police there was an incident in which a sixteen year old suffered a knife wound during a fight with her boyfriend, and another teenager was arrested for an unlicensed firearm… but that’s about it. There were no weekend traffic fatalities and the last murder in Belize occurred a full three weeks ago. With less than two months left in the year, the homicide count stands at sixty-eight… and while that may be sixty-eight deaths too many, the recent outbreak of brotherly love may actually leave 2005 with fewer murders than last year, when the tally reached eighty-two. In 2003, we counted sixty-five homicides, while eighty-seven were recorded in 2002.
