Rising waters close Twin Towns’ wooden bridge
And in a final bit of news from the west, after hours of hard rain on Monday, this morning residents of the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena woke up to find the Macal River practically on their doorstep. The raging water quickly covered the diversion bridge linking the towns, forcing traffic to use the Hawkesworth Bridge. According to locals, the water level has dropped somewhat over the course of today, but tonight officials are more concerned that the large logs that have drifted downstream will not damage the wooden diversion bridge itself.
