Four arrested in Cayo home invasion
Four men have been arrested following a robbery and kidnapping in the Riverwalk area of the Cayo District. The frightening ordeal occurred at the home of sixty-three year old Oscar Chapeau. Chapeau told police that he was drinking at home in the company of his secretary and another man when three armed masked intruders entered the premises. According to Chapeau, the men raped the woman and then they were both tied up and placed in a Mitsubishi pickup truck and taken toward the Western Highway. However, along the way the vehicle developed mechanical problems and the assailants were forced to abandon the pickup and their hostages. Chapeau says he managed to free himself and called the police. Authorities say based on their investigation it appears that the crime was planned and orchestrated not only by the three assailants, but also by the man who was drinking along with Chapeau at the time. He has been identified as seventeen year old Nelson Velasquez, who once worked for the couple. The other suspects have been identified as nineteen year old Reymundo Vasquez, forty year old Mark Gentle, and a thirty year old named Castellanos. The four have been charged with robbery, aggravated burglary, rape, kidnapping and abetment to commit robbery. During the incident a number of items were stolen including a cheque for fifteen thousand dollars, which they believe Velasquez had forged. Velasquez has consequently been charged with forgery and uttering a forged document. Meanwhile, at the scene police recovered two pellet guns equipped with scopes that they believe were used in the commission of the crime.
