Y.W.C.A. opens hair salon
This morning, the Young Women’s Christian Association officially opened its latest programme to the public: a beauty salon. The new service not only promises to assist students at the Y but Belizeans now have the opportunity to be pampered at very affordable prices. Peace Corp Volunteer Beth Preston, who was one of the first customers, hopes Bella’s Expression Salon will be well supported.

?There are actually three objectives. One is that it?s gonna be income generating for the Y.W.C.A. Two that it works as a training module so that the girls will learn how to perform customer service and perform these services, and the third is that it is HIV and AIDS educating, somebody can come in and just hang out and get your hair done and talk about topics that maybe you would be embarrass to talk about with other people, but would be comfortable talking with the students.?
Bella’s Expression is open weekdays from eight in the morning until three in the afternoon and on the last Saturday of each month from nine until four. The salon is situated at the Y.W.C.A. at the corner of St. Thomas Street and Freetown Road. The project is funded by the Ministry of Health, the OPEC fund, and U.N.F.P.A. as part of its initiative “HIV and AIDS Prevention for Youth in Especially Difficult Circumstances.”
