Steadfast Masonic Lodge Turns 51

On Thursday, the Steadfast Masonic Lodge in Belize turned fifty-one years old. While many describe the lodge as a secret and mysterious society, numerous high profile personalities are members. The organization has been in Belize since 1963 and remains active in the area surrounding the Mayflower Community where its building currently sits. Two members from the Steadfast Masonic Lodge 683 came to our studios to demystify the false perceptions and to make a public plea for more understanding and respect for their code and ethics.

“We are a community minded people, we are a group of people who actually do business and we have meetings every two weeks and we report back to our headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida on a regular basis. And we do community based engagements. Just last year, we were instrumental in getting donations from our brothers and sisters in the United States to redistribute to the more indigent and the more poor people in the area where we find ourselves. I think you know that we are located at the corner of Lake View Street and Vernon Street.”

“There are many things that have been done by us and there is much to do. What we do is that we concentrate a lot in the area where the lodge is. So the people of that area benefit the most. We have our Christmas program where the kids come to get their meals and their gifts…and that is annual headed by our senior warden and other brothers of the lodge. We do our education summer program headed by the worthy matron of the sister chapter and that is every summer from standard one to standard six where she prepares the students for the upcoming year. It is free of cost and all utensils for schools are provided. We do lot more by helping families, but we don’t come out and boast on what we do. But there are lots more that we will be doing.”

“We do solicit membership first and foremost. We will accept an application from anybody who would like to become a part of us; however, we don’t countenance an application coming from an atheist. You have to satisfy us that you believe in god, the Supreme Being.”
The Lodge will hold a jubilee anniversary celebration on Saturday with a banquet.
