B.S.C.F.A. Scrambles to Formulate Position

Ezekiel Cansino

While B.S.I. was dropping their bombshell this afternoon, the directors of the sugar-cane branches of the B.S.C.F.A. were holding their own emergency meeting. They received the letter from B.S.I. today and it took them completely by surprise, so they’re still in the process of coming up with a formal response. Just before news time, we managed to speak to newly elected committee of management Chairman Ezekiel Cansino via phone. He told News Five that B.S.I. is attempting to force the farmers to sign something which is detrimental to them and detrimental to the industry.

Ezekiel Cansino, Chairman, Committee of Management, B.S.C.F.A.

“What they are proposing is that they go on with the individual signing of the contract. We believe that they will be dismantling the association and it will harm the cane farmers in the future because they want us to sign the contract that will not benefit us.”

Mike Rudon

“But what are the cane farmers saying because B.S.I. is saying that they believe that all the cane farmers will sign on because this is what they want?”

Ezekiel Cansino

“Anybody could believe. Anybody could believe whatever they want. But what is exactly what the cane farmers really need is an assurance of benefits in the future and not to be losing anything in what they really do because they do it for their living which is the sugar industry.”

Mike Rudon

“Can you say this move by B.S.I. is succeeding because they are saying that they would need six thousand tons per day delivered minimum? Can you say it is succeeding the way they are doing it?”

Ezekiel Cansino

“I don’t think that they will succeed. I don’t believe that.”

Cansino says that the B.S.C.F.A. will release its formal response on Tuesday.
