Ramon Cervantes Jr. Says He Won’t Apologize to Gapi Vega

Rodwell Williams

Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega stands accused of orchestrating a hit on Ramon Cervantes Junior.  That very serious allegation was contained in a purported recording of wanted fugitive Manuel ‘El Pelon’ Castillo, who is also believed to have been involved in the murder of Cervantes’ father back in July.  The unproved assertion went viral last Wednesday, during a press conference held in Orange Walk by the Cervantes family.  The recording was released at a memorial service in honor of the slain ex-politician and was carried live by Love FM and Fiesta FM.  In the wake of the allegation, Vega took to the airwaves in an attempt to clear his name, threatening that any media house which re-broadcasted what was initially aired during the session would be subject to legal action.  On Wednesday, the law offices of Barrow and Williams issued letters to all three parties, including Ramon Cervantes Junior, demanding a public apology by Monday to exonerate Vega of the defamatory statements made against him.

Rodwell Williams, Attorney for Gaspar Vega

“What I can tell you is that I have, I am being instructed by the DPM and I have, as at this point in time, wrote to three persons who we believe published the defamatory and false information and responsible for its publication; that’s [Ramon] Cervantes Junior, we wrote him, Fiesta FM and Love FM because they carried the publication.  And we are saying that within the body of what was published were very, very, serious defamatory and libelous statements and whoever spoke those words, whoever spoke those words, the fact that it was carried and carried, whether innocently or otherwise by those who broadcast it it is our view that it’s condemnatory and it’s in fact libelous and defamatory to have done so.  And, you know, if there is a slander, a libel and somebody repeat it that that repetition is libelous so we have, at this point in time, wrote demanding an apology and demanding that we address the matter of compensation or there will certainly be a suit issued in a few days time.”

Isani Cayetano

“Are these parties compliant with this particular request being made by your client to have a public apology?”

Rodwell Williams

“I don’t know.  At this point in time, I believe I only served the letter yesterday or a day or so ago.  So we expect a result by Monday or the case will be filed.”

Ramon Cervantes Junior went on record today to say that he will not apologize for the accusations made by Castillo against Vega.
