No Apology or Money for Gaspar Vega
Last week Wednesday, through his attorneys Barrow and Williams, Deputy Gaspar Vega threatened to sue CTV-three in Orange Walk, Love FM and Ramon Cervantes Junior. That threat arose from very serious allegations broadcast on November fifth, as the Cervantes family played a recording of a phone call allegedly made by Manuel Castillo, the man Police believe masterminded the kidnapping and murder of Ramon Cervantes Sr. in July. The caller alleged that Vega was involved in the murder, along with a senior Police Officer. Last week Vega’s attorneys demanded apologies and offers of compensation for the injury to his feelings, to be delivered today, Monday. News Five has confirmed that CTV-three, Love FM and Ramon Cervantes Jr. have all declined to apologize or offer money at this point. CTV–three says it has nothing to apologize for because it did not broadcast the offending recording and Love FM says its lawyer, Melissa Balderamos is dealing with the suit. We’ve managed to obtain a copy of a letter sent to Barrow and Williams on Friday by the law firm of Musa and Balderamos, retained by Cervantes. In that letter, attorney Said Musa writes that, quote – “our client denies making or publishing any statement calculated to disparage the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Agriculture, the Hon. Gaspar Vega. Following the abduction, torture and brutal murder of his father in July of this year, our client’s and other members of his family’s sole concern was to assist the authorities in their investigation into this heinous crime…” end quote. Musa claims that the call by the man alleging to be Castillo was a matter of grave concern and public interest, and refutes the assertion of malice toward Vega. The letter ends by stating, quote – “we are firmly of the view that our client had a legitimate interest to act in the manner he did to protect himself and his family from further harm, especially since it was alleged that he was a target of the killing.” In a different but related note, we understand that Deputy Prime Minister Vega held a rally in Orange Walk on Sunday to demonstrate support for himself following the allegations. Despite all the hype leading up to the event, we are reliably informed that the numbers were on the low side.
That lettter from Hon. Said Musa is wonderfully written the tone exude honesty and the truth of t he matter. Who hold a rally to plea innocence? The answer to that question is, THE GUILTY ONE WOULD HOLD A RALLY AND THE MOTIVE BEHIND THE RALLY IS TO SEE IF HE SUCCESSFULLY DECEIVED PEOPLE INTO BELIEVING HE IS INNOCENT AND TO SEE IF HE STANDS A CHANCE TO WIN NEXT GENERAL ELECTIONS. Well now gapi knows that eyes are on him especially after he indirectly self confess with his aired televised plea of innocence playing national anthem after as if trying to win people over by using the anthem and appeal to their patriotic nature of Belizeans. Well the Belizean people are no longer fooled by those cheap psychology. His tone in that televised ad does not sound genuine from the heart and conscience it sounds rehearsed and read off a script.
An innocent person with his power as a minister in government would liaise with Mexico and Guatemala to find the fugitive Manuel Castillo and demand an apology from him that is if Manuel Castillo wont spill more beans.
Gapi can be seen most weekends in meetings with Mexican Drug Cartel members on the Boulevard in Chetumal, Mexico . Armed bodyguards and all.
If someone receives allegations of this magnitude against a public official they should be allowed to speak; not be gagged and silenced by the threats of legal action.
This is serious and if Vega cannot stand up to public scrutiny he should remove himself from public office.
Ms. Moralez, you have said it all. That is very true. The DPM and his gov’t have the power to liaise with Mexico and Guatemala to bring Manuel Castillo to Belize. To add insult to injury the gov’t lied that the interpol is searching for Castillo
