F.C. Belize tops Cayo Avengers in B.P.F.L. action

Story PictureGood evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re right on time for this splash on Sports Monday. Week four of the RFG Insurance Cup Tournament saw Belmopan United play host to Mango Creek F.C. inside the Isidoro Beaton Stadium Saturday night.

Its sixteen minutes into the ballgame when the visitors strike off this set piece courtesy of Hilberto Muschamp who really bends the pill into the far corner for the 1-zip Mango Creek lead.

The reply comes Belmopan from just ten minutes later when this beauty of a header finds Gary Wiltshire who blows a right foot past Darren Hinds to tie the score at 1-apiece.

In the waning moments of the half, the Capital City gang tries to forge ahead with this right foot bomb from Derys Benavides, but it’s directly at Hinds who saves. At the half it?s a 1-1 score.

The host team is the first to threaten in second half, and while number seven Dion Guzman should have converted this gift from the Mango Creek defence, he thinks he deserves a penalty so we’ll just slow it down for you.

Mango Creek then gets its turn to grab the lead when Hilberto Muschamp steps up on this long spotkick, but the timely intervention of the Belmopan keeper saves the day.

The visitors continue to press and Caral Cadle’s turnaround shot shows promise until it’s corralled by the keeper.

Folks it’s getting late, but here comes Mango Creek again as Gary Young slices to Bernard Linares, but he squanders the opportunity.

People can you believe the mighty Francis “Carcass” Arzu fails to come up with a conversion right here? Well he does, which leads to the 1-1 regulation tie between these two Group B ball clubs.

Now let’s head to the M.C.C. Grounds for the Group A showdown between F.C. Belize and the Cayo Avengers where we are greeted with this startling array of colours.

Still, we’re less than a minute in when Rudolph Flowers gets this look at goal from point-blank range, but I guess Rudolph doesn’t like to score too early.

A few minutes later Jaro James, F.C. Belize team-mate gets this look at goal, but gives the Cayo keeper a pass. There’s no doubt F.C. Belize has emerged as the protagonist in this confrontation and that role is solidified when Jaro James finds Rudolph Flowers in the box and his right-away touch gives the host a 1-zip lead thirteen minutes into the action.

Now watch Tyrone Muschamp pick up this ball at midfield and goes all the way only to finish with the pill in the side netting. Today Jaro James is the key offensive player for F.C. Belize and give him the second assist of the day when he finds Marlon Clarke whose bullet makes it a 2-nil Belize City lead.

Just before the half expires, Jaro should have gotten his third assist of the match, only Rudolph Flowers takes the opportunity to embarrass himself.

In second half, the domination by the city team continues as Tyrone Muschamp finds Rudolph Flowers who again comes up empty.

Folks we finally have something that looks like a Cayo highlight, but you decide. At the other end, Rudolph Flowers gets another opportunity to score but Earl Green comes up with a much needed save.

At the sixty-fourth minutes Muschamp finds Germin Avila with this header and his launch is fumbled by Earl Green to make it a 3-zip F.C. Belize lead.

The Avengers finally look threatening when Noel Eiley finds Hector Martinez inside the danger zone, but the finish is obviously lacking. Make it a 4-zip blow out when Muschamp deals to Daniel Thomas who gets on the scoreboard as F.C. Belize records the 4-zip big W over Cayo Avengers.

In other results from around the league in Group A: Wagiya continued on its winning ways doubling Benque Viejo 2-1 and Hankook Verdes crushed the Placencia Pirates 3-1. Over in Group B the San Pedro Seahawks hurt Juventus 4-1, while New Site Erei shocked the Calcutta Bulls 3-2.

Therefore after week four the standings in Group A looks like this: Wagiya of Dangriga is on top with twelve points, F.C. Belize shows ten, Hankook Verdes eight, Kremandala five, Benque Viejo United three, Placencia Pirates one, and guess what? I guess it’s no surprise, Cayo Avengers are yet to record a point in the standings.

Over in Group B: New Site Erei, also of Dangriga, leads this group with nine points, Calcutta Bulls show seven at this point, BOCA F.C. also show seven, San Pedro Seahawks six, Mango Creek F.C. five, Belmopan United four, while Juventus?the defending champion in a rebuilding mode?has only garnered a point so far.

Looking to the weekend, week five will have in Group A: Benque Viejo United seeing action against the Calcutta Bulls at the Marshalleck Stadium; this is an out of zone ball game. At the Norman Broaster Stadium Hankook Verdes will play host to Wagiya. At the Placencia field it’s the Placencia Pirates taking aim at the Cayo Avengers, and Kremandala will meet F.C. Belize at the M.C.C. Grounds in the Belize City derby. It’s a ballgame you don’t want to miss.

Over in Group B: Mango Creek will clash with Juventus at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, out at the island San Pedro Seahawks will get a visit from Belmopan United, and the Carl Ramos Stadium will see group leader New Site Erei in action against BOCA.

That’s our show for today, we certainly invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
