Patrick Faber of Yasmin Shoman’s Collet Candidacy
Aside from the political battle in the Cayo North, there is another fight in the Collet division in Belize City. P.U.P. standard bearer Yasmin Shoman, who replaces Micah Gooding as the political hopeful in Collet, has hit the ground running, in her attempt to unseat three-time area representative Patrick Faber. Shoman had a constituency convention over the weekend in which the former two-time city councilor was endorsed as the People’s United Party’s candidate. Notwithstanding what Faber says was an anemic turnout, Shoman is moving ahead with her campaign efforts. This afternoon, Faber told the media that Shoman’s candidacy poses no threat to him in Collet.
Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“I believe that their candidate, their previous candidate Micah Gooding would have been a more reputable candidate. I suppose after Micah stepped down they had to put somebody, you know. Like I said to the media in the past, I’ll be less kind to my current opponent than I would be to Micah because she is no stranger to politics. She has been in politics, in fact, before was a two-term city councilor and did nothing for the people of Collet, had no interest in the people of Collet and I think she, I’m not even going to go there. I welcome an opponent, we have to have one but I don’t see it as any kind of significant challenge at all. What I am told and from seeing some of the pictures that they have shown to me from her convention, I guess she made some pictures public, I’d give her fifty residents of Collet being in that crowd, fifty. No more than fifty and that would be very generous. Compare that to the three hundred and odd plus people who were at the Garifuna celebration right in front of the Collet office on Monday night. Compare that to the six hundred plus supporters who filled twelve busloads from Belize City to go to the rally in support of the prime minister and this administration on Tuesday and I think that all would agree that there is no threat in this, Ms. Shoman’s candidacy for us in Collet.”
Gooding’s withdrawal from candidacy succeeded an announcement made by P.U.P. Cayo North area representative Joseph Mahmud.
I think you may be in for a surprise. Your overconfidence and arrogance are unsurpassed. Many of the female voters have a surprise for you. Your estranged wife did the right thing; hung in there until she achieved her education and then walked out. No joke coming home to your abuse, alcoholism, and rumours of your s…al preference. By the way, she’s a cousin, so I know your business. You haven’t beaten the right woman as yet. You will meet one where family members will gang up on you or they will have brothers who will take you out of your misery. I saw you “brown-nosing” Dean in your Petrocaribe fiasco. If you only knew he doesn’t like you nor Mark King.
The girl is pretty, but i do think she needs more than that to beat Faber. I think that the level of nepotism in the PUP party obscures all other good initiative, i can’t believe there is no more candidates for this party. If this is the way they operate no wonder we are in trouble when they govern us. We need to change that same thing in the UDP, we should ask for a law against nepotism.
