“Robbery” Charged with Drug Possession
Well-known criminal figure, Kareem Lopez, aka “Robbery” was back before the court today to answer to a single charge of Possession of a Controlled Drug, being ten grams of marijuana. He was caught by a team of police officers on mobile patrol at the corner of Prince and West Streets in Belize City attempting to dispose of the marijuana. On arraignment before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, Lopez pleaded guilty to the offense. On Monday afternoon, police detected Lopez as he released the drug from his hands. They gathered the drug and escorted him to the police station. Lopez was fined two hundred dollars which he is to pay forthwith because the offense was committed while he was out on bail for two criminal offenses. After he was fined, Lopez complained that generally persons are given time to pay their fines, but in his case, he has to pay with immediate effect. In September of this year, Lopez was accused of Causing Public Terror while on Marine Parade Boulevard on the morning of the Carnival Jouvert because he discharged a firearm in a public place. He was initially denied bail and remanded to prison, but was later granted Supreme Court bail. In early January of this year, Lopez was deported from the United States.
