Boots on Mahmud
The issue of Joseph Mahmud’s resignation as Cayo North area was also discussed at today’s Cabinet meeting. News Five also raised the issue with Minister Anthony “Boots” Martinez on what he believes is the reason behind the unexpected resignation. While Martinez did not know that the date had been set for the bye-elections, he called out the Leader of the Opposition.
Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Area Rep., Port Loyola
“Bye-elections should be early next year. I am sure it is not this year, but it should be early next year.”
Reporter
“Early next year could translate to January, February…March is still early next year.”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“No date is set, but no date definite in my understanding was set, but it will be early next year.”
Reporter
“Now what is your take? Can you weigh in on the whole resignation? I mean that is following right on the heels of Marco Tulio Mendez’s resignation also from the P.U.P.”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“Well obviously it seems like the P.U.P. is having problems and if you listen to the leader big talks the other day in the House…bring it on, roll the elections. Well he have one wheel to roll shortly and that’s the wheel of Cayo North.”
Reporter
“Now looking at the two candidates that have applied…Richard Harrison and Michel Chebat, how do you feel either one will go up against Doctor Figueroa who the U.D.P. has set to run?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“I’ve never heard of none of them politically so to me that is a nonstarter in my view. Our candidate has been out there, he won his convention, he has been working on the ground so I think we have a huge advantage.”
“What would be your perception of the fact that Mahmud handed in his resignation without warning?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“Well as I understand it also it goes vice-versa…in my view I understand that Mister Mahmud was having problems internally with the party and they say that the party leader not even took his phone calls…but that is not my business. It is not here nor there…they have their own business to take care of. I am certain that they are not ready for the elections. I am certain that they are way behind; they are backward politically. The P.U.P. is backward politically. We are ready; we are set for municipal elections and Belize City Council of which we will be giving a good trashing in Belize City of which the leader comes from.”
So as we said, January fifth, 2015 is set for the Cayo North bye-elections.
Whatever Boots!
