Wilser Echevarria Remanded for Theft, Murder Charge Still Pending

Tonight, the fate of eighteen-year-old Wilser Echevarria rests in the hands of Director of Public Prosecution Cheryl-Lynn Vidal. When Belmopan Police did not seek her advice while attempting to arraign Echevarria on Wednesday, they were only obeying a directive from Assistant Commissioner of Police Russell Blackett. Via memo on September twenty-fourth, Blackett ordered all formation commanders to ‘cease forthwith’ any consultation with the D.P.P.’s Office before bringing charges for murder or any crime. But the Criminal Code states that when a murder suspect claims self-defence, a written directive must be received from the D.P.P. before charges are brought. And the Criminal Code overrides the directive from Blackett. News Five has been able to confirm firstly that Echevarria has still not been arraigned for the murder of Panamanian diplomat Jose Rodrigo de la Rosa Stanford. He has, however, been remanded until January twenty-seventh, 2015 on a charge of theft, allegedly of the phone belonging to Stanford. We can also confirm that D.P.P. Vidal met with investigators today and has taken possession of the file. Via text today, Vidal told News Five that, “In a case in which the suspect is raising self-defence, it is the duty of the prosecution to rebut the defence. I am working along with the investigator to ensure that we have sufficient evidence to disprove the defense.” A memorial service will be held for Jose Rodrigo de la Rosa Stanford on Friday.
It is indeed unfortunate that this young man had to go to such an irreversible length to protect his human dignity and self esteem. The timing could not have been more suspect, especially in view of the fact that just a few days prior to this horrible incident, non other than the US Ambassador to Belize, did a complete 180 by eating his own words and showed his true colors (of the rainbow) as to where he stood on the matter of gay ‘rights.’
This exactly, is what’s wrong about these ‘gay rights’. De La Rosa or whatever his name is, felt that he had a right, to this youth’s body and attempted to exercise such, by means of an armed threat.
It is regrettable that he did not live to tell the tale but, let it be a warning that as confused as gay people may pretend to be about ‘their rights’, no is still no and on this side, there are those among us that are prepared to defend THAT right with their very lives.

Thank you for your opinion Louisville, Ky. but keep it to yourself. A murder is a murder is a murder. This Echeverria guy obviously knew what he was into. Sadly the greed of this Echeverria was greater. No one innocently accepts that another man buys you a drink and then take you to some remote location especially someone who you had already been involved with. For you to talk about “gay rights” in those terms shown how backward you truly are. Why don’t you give your opinion on the stuff happening in your backyard and not try poison what you think you know is happening in Belize.
