Caretaker Shot and Killed on Farm Near St. Margaret’s Village
Forty-three-year-old Jose Miguel Abrego, a caretaker on a citrus farm near St. Margaret’s Village was shot and killed sometime after eleven o’clock on Sunday night. According to his wife, Abrego was on the property when she heard a volley of shots being fired. She was reportedly upstairs of their residence and took cover. When the shooting subsided, she went looking for her husband some twenty minutes later, only to find him lying in a pool of blood. Abrego had been shot once to the neck and chopped to the left upper back. Belmopan police were summoned to the area of mile thirty-six on the Hummingbird Highway where they found Abrego’s motionless body. He was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
